Outsourced outbound vs hiring an SDR
What you are actually buying in each case, what tends to break, and when hiring in house is the better call.
The two things are not the same purchase
Hiring an SDR buys you a person. Everything that person needs in order to work, the data, the sending infrastructure, the sequences, the reporting, is still missing on their first day, and building it is not the job you hired them for.
Outsourcing outbound buys you the system and the person operating it at the same time. The trade is that the knowledge sits partly outside your company unless the arrangement is built to leave it behind.
What breaks when you hire
A new SDR spends their first months building the thing rather than using it. They pick tools, they learn them, they write sequences, they burn a domain figuring out deliverability. Meanwhile the ramp is silent and nobody can tell whether the problem is the person, the list or the offer.
If they leave, most of it leaves with them. The sequences stay in a tool nobody else logs into and the reasoning behind the targeting was never written down.
What breaks when you outsource
The common failure is an agency that treats you as one of many identical accounts: a bought list, a generic sequence, a monthly report you cannot verify. You get activity instead of pipeline, and no way to audit it.
The second failure is dependency. When the engagement ends you are back where you started, because nothing was built inside your own stack and nothing was handed over.
When hiring is the right call
If your motion is already working and you simply need more hands on it, hire. If your sales cycle depends on deep product knowledge that takes months to absorb, hire. If you have someone senior who can build the system and manage the person, hire.
We would rather say that plainly than sell you something that fits us better than it fits you.
How we do the outsourced half
We build on your stack, not ours, so the engine stays yours. You see what went out, who replied and where each account stands in your own Client Portal rather than in a slide we send you.
And we do not stop at the meeting. The workspace that manages what comes back, proposals, contracts, invoices and a client portal for your own clients, is part of the same handover.
Questions we get asked
That is the usual ending. We build and run the engine, and when you hire, the person walks into something that already works instead of a blank tool.
